Fundraising thru ducks


The 2017 Epilepsy SA Duck Race is being held for the benefit of Epilepsy SA – Free State & North West Branch, a nonprofit organization registration number 003-970.

1. Ducks will be launched into the Vaal River during the break before the final of the Dragon Boat Races, on 5 November 2017. As the Dragon Boats have been unexpectedly cancelled at very short notice, the Duck Race will now take place on 25 November 2017. The Race forms part of the Annual Dome Adventure Festival. The race course will be approximately 75 meter in length or as established by Epilepsy SA. Epilepsy SA reserves the right, in its absolute and sole discretion, to postpone and/or reschedule the event. Epilepsy SA shall not be held liable for any loss, damage, or inconvenience which may result by any such postponement or rescheduling of the Epilepsy SA Duck Race.  

2. All ducks entered will be provided by and shall remain the property of Epilepsy SA.  

3. Once the ducks are launched, they are on their own. No attempt to free or interfere with any duck is permitted, unless there is no current or wind, in which a wave will be created to move the ducks.  

4. A number will be written on each duck corresponding directly to the number on an entry ticket. Multiple duck entries will be assigned a different duck identification number for each duck entry. Prize(s) will be awarded to the person whose name appears on the entry ticket in the order the corresponding duck crosses the finish line. Prizes will be announced on the day of the Epilepsy SA Duck Race at the site of the event. Prizes are non-transferable.  

5. Epilepsy SA reserves the right, in its absolute and sole discretion, to substitute prizes of comparable value.  

6. The 1st place winner will receive R5,000. The 2nd place winner will receive R2,500. The 3rd place winner will receive R1,000.  

7. To be eligible for prizes, the entry portion of each entry ticket must be completed in its entirety and actually received by Epilepsy SA no later than 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, 5 November 2017. No other tickets are eligible to win any prize. For a duck entry sale, only one confirmation is required. For multiple duck entry sales, a separate entry ticket must be completed for each duck.  

8. The price to enter and to purchase an entry ticket(s) are as follows: one (1) for R50; Ten (10) via www.duckraces.co.za for R450;.  

9. Winners will be announced at the conclusion of the Epilepsy SA Duck Race at approximately 15:00. Entrants do not need to be present to be eligible for prizes. Winners will, if necessary, be notified by telephone. A list of Rubber Duck Race winners will be available on the organisations website (www.epilepsy.ngo) and the race website (www.duckraces.co.za ). If any race winner does not claim his or her prize from Epilepsy SA within ninety (90) days of the Duck Race, the prizes will be forfeited and accepted as a donation to Epilepsy SA – Free State & North West Branch.  

10. No cash equivalent prizes will be provided in lieu of the designated prizes. Any and all taxes and similar fees on any prize are the sole responsibility of the winner.  

11. By completing and purchasing an entry ticket(s), entrants release Epilepsy SA and its members, agents, employees, volunteers, and other related entities, from any and all liability with respect to prizes.  

12. By completing and returning an entry ticket(s), winners consent to the promotional use of their names and likenesses without compensation.  

13. Chances of winning a prize(s) depend on the total number of qualified entries. Individual ticket purchases are not tax deductible according to the South African Revenue Service.  

14. Epilepsy SA – Free State & North West Branch will utilize its Board of Management, consisting of not less than five (5) persons, who will have the responsibility of the presentation and completion of the Epilepsy SA Duck Race. The Board of Management will make all final decisions and interpretations of these rules and regulations in its sole and absolute discretion.  

15. Members of the organisation’s Board of Directors, are not eligible to win prizes.  

16. Winners have the burden to prove eligibility.  

17. Each duck entry will receive an entry into a luck draw for a SAMSUNG 40" (102 cm) Smart Full HD LED TV. This draw will take place electronically and the first number drawn will win the prize.
